Information Security - The Technical and Organizational Challenges
Mon Jul 12, 2004 - Mon Jul 12, 2004
If headlines are any indication, the challenge of safeguarding an organization's information systems
keeps getting harder. New vulnerabilities are discovered every day, and high profile hacker attacks
seem to occur with frightening regularity. Proactively responding to emerging threats while ensuring
that existing policies are implemented effectively can be a daunting challenge, with very public
consequences for failure.
To complicate matters, IT security leaders must leverage not only technical solutions, but also business
skills. To be effective, they must be prepared to justify, in business terms, both the financial
costs associated with security solutions and the flexibility costs associated with constraints on employees'
free access to data. At this meeting, IT security professionals discussed their experiences and
compared their approaches on both the technical and business dimensions. Member presentations and facilitated discussion addressed a range of issues, including:
- Security challenges for the distributed enterprise
Centralizing identity and access management
- Data privacy and security
- Emerging threats
