The Business and Technology Realities of E-Business
Mon Apr 8, 2002 - Tue Apr 9, 2002
It will be a major undertaking for business and IT executives to determine the impact of the economic
downturn, the terrorist attacks, and threats of further terrorism. How have these events impacted
the marketplace in general, their particular industry segment, their customer base and their
product and service offerings? Part of that challenge is the reassessment of e-business strategies
and initiatives.
Overall, the business and technology realities of today bear strong resemblance to those of a year
ago, but that is not the situation in e-business. Strategies and plans related to dot.coms,
dot.corps, spin-offs, supply chain management, customer relationship management, just-in-time
procurement and marketplace exchanges have been revisited or dropped.
This meeting will explore the changing face of e-business. We will draw on the experiences of
practitioners and other experts to explore how to keep e-business robust and profitable, how to innovate
in an economic downturn and how to protect business information and networks in the
volatile and possibly perilous environment in which we find ourselves. E-business leaders from
some of the world's most successful companies will discuss:
Experiences in Implementing E-Business Why (if true) have dot.corps been so much more
successful than dot.coms? What success factors are there for working with exchanges, and can
your company take advantage of them? What have been the experiences in extending the combination
of e-business and KM to managing and enhancing customer relationships?
Network and Infrastructure Implications As organizations move more of their business transactions
and information sharing to the Nets, what infrastructure and procedural steps can be
taken to minimize exposure to network failure? How do they meet requirements for scalability, reliability,
responsiveness, security and cost management?
Business and the Web - Keeping Customers Coming Back What techniques are being employed
to make the Web a premier way to interact with customers and suppliers? How is the Web
being used to conduct business internally? Which management, organizational and creative approaches
are yielding the best results?
The Role of Portals What is the business case for portals? How are they being used, what technologies
are being employed, and what results and benefits are they bringing? What organizational
and governance issues need to be addressed?
